JSW faces pressure over unpaid local taxes

Steel giant JSW Steel is facing criticism for allegedly failing to pay more than Rs 20 crore in property and development taxes since 2018 in Sandur taluk of Ballari district. Local gram panchayats, including Toranagallu, Bannihatti, and Vaddu, have issued repeated notices, but officials say tax recovery remains difficult. Authorities expressed frustration over the company’s delay despite running large industrial operations in the region. Bharat Reddy also criticised the company, questioning its contribution to local employment and tax payments. He said the matter would be raised before the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for further action soon.
